Best Cozy Places to Read Books

5 minute read

Because we love all things cozy and all things bookish, we put together this guide for some of the best cozy places to read books this winter to help you find your happy place!

With cold weather in full swing and mile-long TBR lists ready for the new year, now is the best time to bundle up in a cozy spot to indulge in some winter reading. And if your reading list is as long as ours here at LitJoy, finding that perfect reading spot is just as important as deciding which book to read next!

1. Fireplace

What's cozier than curling up next to a warm fire with a hot drink and a book in hand? We're not sure if it's the sound of crackling logs, the comforting smoky smell, or the sleepy warmth, but this reading spot is number one on our list for a reason! Bonus: the warm fireplace ambience pairs great with classic literature . Our top picks are Pride and Prejudice Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights!

2. Café or Coffee Shop

A café or coffee may be a tad cliché, but there's just something about the smell of roasted coffee beans and the white noise of conversations that puts us right in the zone of our favorite read. Whether you like sitting right next to the window on a rainy day or prefer being tucked in a back corner away from the distractions, a nice brew at a coffee shop is the way to go! 3. Bar

We know, a bar may sound a bit unconventional. But trust us, sitting in a low-key bar with a beer, wine, or fun cocktail is an incredible way to cozy up and unwind with a great book. Plus, it gives you an air of mystery...

But if you'd rather drink your favorite bourbon or wine in the comfort of your own home, make sure you're at least doing it with a fancy glass--like this Hunter's Moon Stemless Wine Glass , or this Scot Whiskey Glass inspired by some of our favorite literary fandoms.

We don't recommend drinking blood as was the habit of some of our favorite Downworlders. But if the mood strikes you for a rich and savory beverage this Hunter's Moon Stemless Wine Glass will do! Sip from this wine glass and… read more

4. Public Transport

There is something so calming about tucking yourself into a window seat on a train, plane, bus, or any other form of transportation that takes you straight from reality into the world of literature. Picture leaning your head against the glass, maybe nibbling on your favorite snack, and watching the landscape whir by as you turn the pages of your current read. 5. Library or Bookstore

A local library or bookstore may feel a bit obvious, but they are some of the best places to read. There is not much cozier than reading while being surrounded by thousands of books. The sound of pages turning, rows and rows of shelves featuring every genre you can imagine, and the peaceful atmosphere all lend themselves to some deep focus. It's like being in a treasure chest of literature!

Some libraries even have special winter reading programs to make reading for fun even more rewarding! Or, if you have a specific list of books for winter reading that you want to tackle with friends, start your own book club! Meet up at a nearby library or a well-stocked bookstore and get sharing!

6. Bathtub

Yes, you read that right! Soaking in a warm tub full of bubbles with a glass of rosé in hand sounds incredible on its own. Add in a great book, and it's tough to think of many better places to go read! Turn on some soft music, light a candle, and you're set for a relaxing evening of comfortable reading. 7. Your Bed

Author and Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Quindlen said it best, “We read in bed because reading is halfway between life and dreaming, our own consciousness in someone else's mind.” We totally agree! A cozy reading spot where you can get the most out of reading while drifting off into a peaceful sleep is right in your own bed.

Check out this fan-favorite Sassenach Blanket that begs the question, "To bed or to sleep?" or The Selection-Inspired Sleep Mask Set for when you are ready to drift off into a good night's sleep (after getting through one more chapter, of course!).

8. Book Nook

Last but not least: the quintessential reading nook. If you find yourself searching for the best reading spots, but none of them are quite what you're looking for, this might just be your perfect place.

What makes a book nook so great is its versatility. You can make it as cozy, as chic, or as magical as you'd like! Add a few throw pillows, comfortable blankets, a diffuser--heck, even a single-cup coffee maker if you like to read first thing in the morning. Reading nook ideas are endless! Your reading corner is your safe space.

When it comes to finding the best places to read books, the possibilities are infinite! What's most important is that you feel cozy and comfortable so that your imagination can run wild in the pages of your favorite book.
