What's not to love about a slow-burn relationship, with a side of fake dating and science all wrapped up into one best selling debut novel? Nothing. That's the answer. Of course, we're suckers for almost all of the romance book tropes, but we absolutely love Ali Hazelwood's The Love Hypothesis. So much so that we created The Love Hypothesis Playlist to enjoy while swooning about Olive and Adam's love story.

What is The Love Hypothesis?

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood follows Olive, a biology Ph.D. student, as she enters a fake relationship with moody but respected professor Adam in order to appease her best friend. But Adam needs Olive too in order to convince Stanford to release his research funds they've locked up because they think he's leaving for another university. Will their charade turn into real feelings, forcing them to confront their pasts and vulnerabilities? A story of romance, healing, and personal growth unfolds.

Song Inspiration for The Love Hypothesis Spotify Playlist

“Goodnight n go” by Ariana Grande and “Tornado Warnings” by Sabrina Carpenter highlight the tension between Olive and Adam throughout the book, which complicates their personal situations. They’re only supposed to be fake dating, what are these feelings about?

The song “505" by Arctic Monkeys reminds us of the only one bed trope where Hazelwood forces her fake lovers to share a hotel room.

While “I Think He Knows” by Taylor Swift refers to the attraction they feel toward one another, but neither have admitted the feelings are real...at least not yet.

And “Rollercoaster” by Bleachers showcases the highs and lows of their exciting rollercoaster of emotions.

Of course, we also had to bring in some of the science of love with “Electric Love” by BØRNS. Not only does this song remind us of the sparks that fly between Olive and Adam when they are in scenes together, but it also gives a nod to their science backgrounds
