Let's take a peek at the stunning tip-in art included in City of Fallen Angels! SPOILER WARNING for fantasy book loverswho have The Mortal Instruments series on their TBR list!

Tip-In Art #1: Clary Fray and Jace Herondale by @gonzalom.art

After Jace is put under Sebastian's control in City of Lost Souls, Clary saves him by running a Seraph blade containing heavenly fire through him. The sword purges out the demon from Jace, but the heavenly fire remained in him.

Once Jace is goaded by a demon during a conversation, he loses control of the fire inside of him and it bursts into a massive inferno of heavenly fire around him. No one is able to get to Jace except for Clary, who creates a fireproof rune to help him. We chose this scene because it's a beautiful moment where Clary & Jace work together to escape this fiasco.

Tip-In Art #2: Clary Fray and Sebastian Morganstern by @sophia_volovik

This heartbreaking scene portrays Clary with Sebastian, who is revealed to be her brother, as he lays dying. Sebastian's goal was to tempt Clary to join him and his army of demons, but she instead tricks him. She is able to stab him with the Seraph blade containing heavenly fire in an attempt to purge him of evil. However, Sebastian is filled with so much evil that he cannot survive the strike.

We chose this scene because it captures the first moment Clary gets to experience Sebastian as a human and his feelings of remorse for all his wrongdoings. This makes for a bittersweet moment because Clary is grappling with the emotions of feeling sympathy for her brother during his last moments, but not being able to forgive him. A detail you will notice is that Sebastian's usually black demon eyes are now green, the same color as his sister's, to represent his humanity.
